Steering Pad Switch Circuit

DESCRIPTION

This circuit sends an operation signal from the steering pad switch to the radio receiver assembly.

If there is an open in the circuit, the audio system cannot be operated using the steering pad switch.

If there is a short in the circuit, the same condition as when the switch is continuously depressed occurs.

Therefore, the radio receiver assembly cannot be operated using the steering pad switch, and also the radio receiver assembly itself cannot function.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

CAUTION:

The vehicle is equipped with an SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) which includes components such as airbags. Before servicing (including removal or installation of parts), be sure to read the precautionary notice for the SRS SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: AIRBAG SYSTEM: PRECAUTION (2008 Sequoia) .

PROCEDURE

1.

INSPECT RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY

(a) Disconnect the I3 radio receiver assembly connector.

(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

Tester Connection

Switch Condition

Specified Condition

I3-7 (SW1) - I3-6 (SWG)

No switch is pushed

100 kΩ or higher

Seek+ switch: push

Below 1 Ω

Seek- switch: push

312 to 345 Ω

Volume+ switch: push

950 to 1050 Ω

Volume- switch: push

2954 to 3265 Ω

I3-8 (SW2) - I3-6 (SWG)

No switch is pushed

100 kΩ or higher

MODE switch: push

Below 1 Ω

On Hook switch: push

312 to 345 Ω

Off Hook switch: push

950 to 1050 Ω

(c) Reconnect the radio receiver assembly connector.

OK

3.

INSPECT STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY

(a) Disconnect the z12 steering pad switch assembly connector.

(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

Tester Connection

Switch Condition

Specified Condition

10 (AU1) - 8 (EAU)

No switch is pushed

100 kΩ or higher

Seek+ switch: push

Below 1 Ω

Seek- switch: push

312 to 345 Ω

Volume+ switch: push

950 to 1050 Ω

Volume- switch: push

2954 to 3265 Ω

9 (AU2) - 8 (EAU)

No switch is pushed

100 kΩ or higher

MODE switch: push

Below 1 Ω

On Hook switch: push

312 to 345 Ω

Off Hook switch: push

950 to 1050 Ω

(c) Reconnect the steering pad switch assembly connector.

OK

4.

INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE

(a) Disconnect the z12 steering pad switch assembly connector.

(b) Disconnect the H54 spiral cable connector.

(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

Tester Connection

Condition

Specified Condition

z12-8 (EAU) - H54-4 (EAU)

Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations counterclockwise

Below 1 Ω

Spiral cable is centered

Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations clockwise

z12-10 (AU1) - H54-6 (AU1)

Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations counterclockwise

Spiral cable is centered

Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations clockwise

z12-9 (AU2) - H54-5 (AU2)

Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations counterclockwise

Spiral cable is centered

Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations clockwise

CAUTION:

The spiral cable is an important part of the SRS airbag system. Incorrect removal or installation of the spiral cable may prevent the airbag from deploying. Be sure to read the PRECAUTION for the SRS SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: AIRBAG SYSTEM: PRECAUTION (2008 Sequoia) .

(d) Reconnect the steering pad switch assembly connector.

(e) Reconnect the spiral cable connector.

OK
